The Chandni Chowk or The Moonlight Square is the central street in Old Delhi which is one of the oldest and busiest markets. The street is a part of City of Shahjahanabad which was built by Emperor Shahjahan in 1638. Chandini Chowk had Havelis & now, it has shops of rich and famous people of Delhi. There was a water canal in the centre. This street was designed by Shahjahan’s daughter, Jahanara.
Qutub Minar, Delhi is a minaret 72.5 meters in height. It was built as a victory tower after the defeat of the last Hindu king of Delhi, Prithviraj Chauhan in 1192 by Mohammad Ghori. The construction started in 1199 but the top two stories were constructed by Firoz Shah Tughlaq in the Thirteenth century.
View of North and South Block from Raisina Hill: The British decided to shift the capital of India from Kolkata to Delhi in 1911 and they named the new capital as New Delhi. These buildings were designed by Herbert Baker on the Raisina Hills and on the top of the Hill was the Vice regal lodge which now serves as the President of India’s House or Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Golden Temple, Amritsar is also known as Harmandir Sahib. The Foundation stone of the Temple was laid in 1589 by a Muslim holy man, Mian Mir of Lahore in 1589 on the request of Fifth Guru, Guru Arjan Dev ji. The temple is built in the centre of the man-made sarovar built by the fourth Guru Amardas ji. This is the main temple of Sikhs.
